About Me

Hi, I'm Julian Hirsch. Over the past several years, I've spent my summers globetrotting to Israel and Jordan to participate in archaeological excavations. During those visits I developed a fascination with Holy Land tourism, the history of biblical archaeology, and the reception and presentation of the Bible and "biblical artifacts" in museum settings. My fascination with these topics culminated in my BA research project where I investigated the history and origins of Oberlin College's historical biblical archaeology collection.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I was unable to travel abroad and instead found myself working as a commerical archaeologist in the southern United States. The Bible Belt is replete with biblical archaeology collections, Bible Museums, and Holy Land recreation experiences. This blog will serve as a place to record my travels, experiences, and impressions as I dig into what the Holy Land looks like from home.
